An update to this previous post:
*If Google is investing in 1 Gbps cable infrastructure with plans to go nationwide as an ISP, the timing is impeccable. If what I’m thinking is technically feasible. It could solve the EMP threat for a large portion of the infrastructure.
President Obama’s plan to build high speed rails and high speed internet infrastructures can be combined - & prevent the infrastructure from attack in the future. If high speed rails become a reality across the U.S., Google could install a 1 Gbps network in the rail system. The network cables are then protected from an EMP by designing the high speed rails as a combo infrastructure. High speed rail systems are designed to stop in the most highly populated areas. Those same areas also need greater bandwidth because, well there are more people using the internet there.
Google could offer to install the wiring at a discounted rate, to the government, in exchange for whatever it’d be worth (billions, no doubt). And the motion of the high speed rails themselves could be captured or used to propel energy/information - because of the trains momentum.
It’s worth noting that, from what I’ve read (could be wrong), the U.S. highway systems originally began in both cities Google chose to give free internet to. Coincidence?
*So what’s new? I had this idea when I wrote the post originally, but couldn’t quite put the pieces together. The rail infrastructure can be designed as the most powerful computer in the world. The trains, gliding on the railing, have the potential to process such large amounts of information - it’s insane. The basic design of the rails doesn’t need to be changed. The internet just needs to be integrated. Crazy? Or plausible?
